China Wastes 35 Million Metric Tons of Grain a Year—Enough to Feed 200 Million http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-10-17/china-wastes-35-million-metric-tons-of-grain-a-year-enough-to-feed-200-million#r=nav-f-story 中國廢物糧食3500萬公噸年,足以養活200億  By  Dexter Roberts     October 17, 2014           Photograph by Ariana Lindquist/Bloomberg A farmer harvests rice in Xizhou county, China Chinese officials like to point out that their country has less than 10 percent of the world’s arable land but has to feed a fifth of the world’s population. So you would think that China obsessively ensures there is no wastage in its agriculture sector. You would be wrong. Every year China wastes at least 35 million metric tons of grain through subpar storage, during transportation by truck, rail, and boat, and through excessive processing, said a Chinese official earlier this week. “The losses can feed 200 million people for a year, which is shameful,” said Chen Yuzhong, an official wi

Tens of thousands of people had been turning out for the rallies against the Chinese government's decision to limit candidates in forthcoming leadership elections, bringing parts of the territory to a standstill. But as student leaders have started meeting government officials to lay the groundwork for talks on political reform, the protesters out on the streets are in their hundreds, not thousands . Connaught Road, central Hong Kong On Sunday 29 September, Occupy Central joined forces with students who had been staging boycotts and sit-ins to demand democracy. Their occupation of the busi

香港抗議     A tough test for China's leaders Sep 29th 2014, 12:17 by G.E. | HONG KONG Umbrella man IT IS a most unusual sight on Chinese soil, and most unsettling for leaders in Beijing. On September 28th and 29th tens of thousands of demonstrators surrounded government offices and filled major thoroughfares around Hong Kong, braving rounds of tear gas from riot police to call for democracy and demand the resignation of Leung Chun-ying, the territory's Beijing-backed chief executive. One image broadcast and shared around the world, of a lone protester holding his umbrella aloft in a cloud of tear gas (pictured above), has given the non-violent protests a poetic echo of “tank man” from the crackdown at Tiananmen Square in 1989. It also captures precisely what Communist Party leaders in Beijing fear from Hong Kong and its special status under the “one country, two systems” arrangement it has enjoyed since the territory’s handover from Britain in 1997. Not only

More Money Down Adds to U.S. First-Time Buyer Blues: Economy

Image
The challenges facing prospective buyers of the least expensive homes in the U.S. are getting harder to overcome. Already beset by  stagnant wages , growing student debt and competition from investors who are snapping up listings, those looking to purchase moderately priced houses must also provide more cash up front. The median down payment for the cheapest 25 percent of properties sold in 2013 was $9,480 compared with $6,037 in 2007, the last year of the previous economic expansion, according to data from 25 of the largest metro areas compiled by brokerage firm  Redfin Corp . The higher bar is a symptom of still-tight credit that is crowding out first-time buyers even as  interest rates  remain near historical lows. Younger adults, who would normally be making initial forays into real estate, are among those most affected, weakening the foundations of the housing market and limiting its contribution to economic growth. Median Price in Sacramento Region

DATA PROVIDED BY RYAN  REHNQUIST  VIA  http:// sacramentoappraisalblog.com/ Kids are back in school and the market for the past 3 months have been FLAT!    Ryan Lundquist has an interesting data set you should read to see what the appraisers are seeing in our market place and also what our buyers and sellers are seeing too. Prices are flat, inventory is up, average days to sell is up to 40 days, sales are down compared to last year but only because there’s a big gap on last year’s cash sales vs this year’s cash sales.  Data is showing that we’re in a normalizing market after all is said and done and hopefully a good sign for our business.  價格一直持平在薩克拉門托地區 3 個月:價格持平,庫存上升,平均日銷售達 40 天,銷量下降與去年同期相比,但僅僅是因為有去年的現金銷售比今年的現貨銷售有很大的差距。 1) Prices have been flat for three months in the Sacramento Region: The median p rice has been the same for three months in the Sacramento Region, which shows the market has definitely cooled off. Chinese Real Estate Investors 中國人來美國投資房地產

Image
Chinese Real Estate Investors 中國人 來美國投資 房地 產 The US housing market looks like it’s going to get a big boost in the near future. Some investors from abroad are starting to make big land grabs and the trend doesn't look to be slowing anytime soon. China seems to be the big money behind the most recent round of big purchases. $22 billion has been spent so far from Chinese real estate investors. This is about a quarter of all foreign real estate purchases. They’re paying cash and buying expensive, according to the latest reports. An average home goes for just shy of $600k. Some of the states benefiting the most from the rising home prices include California and Washington. This is good and bad news for your average real estate investor. The good news is that prices should be rising so your investments are going to start paying off sooner than they would otherwise. The bad news is that the market is becoming a lot more crowded. Vacation properties and rental units are being

Organizers seek donations for Sacramento farmers market

Organizers seek donations for Sacramento farmers market 主辦單位尋求捐款薩克拉門托農貿市場. Organizers of an effort to add a mural to the site of a popular Sacramento farmers market are ramping up their efforts to solicit community donations, beginning with an upcoming dinner at Mulvaney’s B&L . The Aug. 1 dinner, prepared by Patrick Mulvaney , will include four courses with a farm-fresh theme. It costs $75 per person or $750 for a 10-person table, with proceeds benefitting the mural campaign, dubbed Bright Underbelly . The 70,0000-square-foot mural would add color to the gray cement that dominates a farmers market held Sundays underneath the freeway at Eighth and W streets. The fundraising dinner is limited to 125 guests, according to Tre Borden , project manager for the mural effort. Tickets were available online, but sold out by Friday afternoon. Borden is working with Sacramento-based L/C Mural & Design for the project, which would cover the space above the farmers market as well as

7 Health myths that might surprise you

HEALTH & SAFETY 7 health myths that might surprise you (BPT) - Living a healthy life takes some resolve, but success often comes down to knowing what pays the biggest dividends for a given effort. Health coaches are great sources for this insight. They’ve seen it all on the job and learned a lot in their training. Myth No. 1: An aerobic workout boosts your metabolism all day.  Wrong, it just burns calories while you’re doing it. Muscle-strengthening exercises, however, will burn calories long after your workout. Myth No. 2: If you don’t break a sweat, it’s not a workout.  Wrong, sweat is just the body’s way of cooling itself. A better reflection of effort is the talk test: your workout is moderate if you can talk, but not sing, and vigorous if you need to take a breath every few words. Myth No. 3: You should stretch before you exercise.  Not really, you could hurt yourself. Better to stretch after you’re warmed up with light, smooth movement of gradually increasing inte
